Post Roundup 5/17-6/4
Voracious Vegan, “Fat Rant” :
When fat women have the audacity to embrace their bodies and celebrate their innate beauty and live the life they want to live regardless of society’s demand that they worship at the alter of anorexia and sacrifice two hours of their day to the treadmill gods, they are looked at as freaks, weird monstrosities that no one is quite sure what to do with.
The Rotund, “Fatties, I Challenge You; In Fact, I Dare You” :
We self-denigrate for a lot of reasons: defensive strategy, habit, “modesty.”
Let’s stop that. Today, I dare you not to apologize for yourself.
Alas, a blog, “How Fat People Will Be Harmed By The Affordable Care Act” :
The biggest potential harm to fat people under the ACA lies in “Wellness” programs…Of course, there’s little practical difference between rewarding healthy employees, and penalizing allegedly less healthy employees.
Red Vinyl Shoes, “The Class Dynamics of DIY Clothing” :
A common refrain among some people when a fat person laments the lack of fashionable clothing in larger sizes is “sew your own!” Which I’m sure is meant in a constructive way, and it would be great if everyone could just sew their own clothes. But simply advising people to sew their own ignores the very real class issues involved with sewing and DIY in general.
Fat Heffalump, “Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire” :
I’ve handed over food diaries and been asked if that was all of it, like a naughty school child being asked to hand over all of the cookies they stole. I’ve had “Did you add your snacks to this?” and “Now are you being totally honest Kath?” I’ve been asked “What did you have for dessert?” when I had written nothing because I had not had anything.
Return to Sender, “Meaty Topic: How did I get here?” (some diet talk)
…and I wrote my first post using the word fatshion. And then I wrote my first fatshion post there after. And my blog title change from “Return to Sender: Letter’s to the World without Postage” to “Return to Sender: A FAT Girl’s Letters to the World.”
Dances with Fat, “I don’t have to be naked to love my body” :
Having good body image means that you have good body image – not that you necessarily want to show a lot of skin. Thin people have wide and varied looks (think preppy vs. stripper) and so do fat people. The fact that a person of size doesn’t want to show a ton of skin may or may not have anything to do with the way they feel about their body.
FatFu, “When Politicians Talk About Fat Kids, Check Your Wallet” :
It’s a damn good question. Why do we let M. Obama off the hook here, and assume she doesn’t know exactly what she’s doing and who really stands to benefit?

Thanks for the post from Voracious Vegan. I never would have found it on my own. It’s great to read some informative posts that aren’t on FA feeds.

Your very welcome. But I didn’t find it on my own. Someone else posted a link to it and I saw the post on the FFFFeed. Of course, now that I’m trying to think about, I totally can’t remember who I should be giving credit to!
I’ve learned my lesson. Next time I’ll make a note so I can give credit where it’s due.
Hey Elizebeth,
Which category is Voracious Vegan on? Allies?
Just curious.
Peace,
Shannon
atchka -
The blog is under personal but we could easily move it to Allies. Pop me an email and I can tell you how to edit that, if you’d like.
Thanks for the link love!
sleepydumpling –
Your welcome. It was a great post you wrote.
Thank you so much for featuring me
tabayag -
You deserved it. And your welcome.
Speaking of links, do any of you know what happened to the Zaftig Chicks? I liked their blog, but now something weird is going on at their site. Is it kaput?
The same thing is happening to me. It comes up as a sign in page requiring a password.
I miss them!
Anyway, if you find anything out let me know because I always enjoy reading what they have to say.
I wonder if you were a regular commenter over there like NCP & Atchka if you’d be able to “log in” with them or whatever. I liked them a lot, but I never bothered to leave a comment. I’m a long time lurker on lots of blogs, but I’ve only had my own for about 20 minutes
I used to comment quite a bit and was even on their blogroll (as they were on mine). I hope all is okay.
Shannon, do you have another way to reach them to see if all is well?
I have no idea. I haven’t been there in a while, myself. I’ve sent them an email, though, and will let you know what I find out.
Peace,
Shannon
