On Hold with Atchka! and Dr. Katherine Flegal
So, I’ve noticed that my two most popular podcasts are the two with the greatest name recognition: MeMe Roth and Mary Jo Pehl. I hope that even though you may not be familiar with today’s guest, Dr. Katherine Flegal, you will give it a listen.
Dr. Flegal was one of the earliest researchers to raise the alarm when obesity rates spiked in the ’80s and ’90s. She’s also the person who corrected the CDC’s initial mortality rate from a mind-boggling 365,000 deaths annually to an adjusted rate of 26,000.
We discuss her ground-breaking work with the CDC and she even talks me down off the sensationalist ledge as I try to get her to admit to the CDC’s evil conspiracy.
Grounded in facts, Dr. Flegal explains why the alarming news of obesity rates is not so alarming after all.
Listen here.

Nice! Good Explanations of the data.
Yeah, and I loved at the end how she put the kibosh on the whole “waist circumference” as a replacement for BMI crap. BMI/waist circumference are poor indicators of mortality. Now, health is another matter, but I think mortality is pretty telling.
Peace,
