Plastic Porpoise —

After Lane Bryant shit the bed (which is a saying I’ve encountered twice now and find utterly hilarious), they felt the full force of a Fatty Flood.

Well, a day later (and a dollar short?) they’ve issued a formal apology from the VP of Marketing, Jay Dunn. I recommend commenting because if Mr. Dunn is reading, we want him to hear us all. If you’re still wary of patronizing a store that so easily antagonized its base clientele, do what I did and use a fake address and your spam email (you know you have one).

Next week, the Fierce, Freethinking Fatties will devote a Theme Week to discussing Lane Bryant’s clusterfuck and backpedaling in-depth.

But for now, the question I want to ask is, what do you think of the apology?

I think it’s a solid apology; they screwed up, they admit it and don’t hide it, they say exactly what they did wrong and corrected it. That’s pretty great and a lot more than we’ve come to expect from big business.

Someone over at therotund.com mentions the fact that the tweet-writer knew who definatalie was and yet still posted it. So I’m full of meh at LB. I would buy nothing from them except their bras of awesome. Husband has insisted I find another outlet for such awesomeness. I agree, now.

I can’t shop at LB, they don’t carry anything above a 3X in tops and I’m bigger than that. I can wear their pants, but they don’t have any I like (and I refuse to pay their prices), Right Fits don’t fit my shape, Red, Blue, or Yellow (waist is always too tight and the rest of the pant is always too baggy after wearing for half an hour or so, not something I’m going to put up with for the money they charge, even at the lower price).
I’m glad they apologized, but I’m doubting the sincerity of it. After all, they don’t seem to listen to what fat women want in the way of fashion, not really, so is this a sincere apology or just a way to get us to back off boycotting them? Cynic that I am, I’m betting on the latter.

It’s a bland, beige apology that they knew they needed to issue because they knew they had a watching populace that wouldn’t stand for less.

It’s not like they did a great thing by apologizing, it’s just that not apologizing would merely fuck things up further.
