Munchies!

May 10, 2024

I love crispy, crunchy, salty snacky things.

To my great sadness, though, greasy fried stuff and my belly do not get along at all.

Sometimes I will make the sacrifice and eat chicken strips, because I love them (and no, I don’t think the “cornflake baked strips” are the same thing).

But most of the time, the knowledge of what will happen to my belly if I indulge is enough to send me looking for a non-fried non-greasy alternative.

So I thought, in honor of “Munchie Monday”, and in case there’s anyone else out there for whom grease is not a friend of their digestive tract, I would share a few of my favs…

Baked Cheetos - OMG! All the cheesy goodness - but not fried, so they aren’t greasy. SO YUM!

Baked Tostitos - Tortilla chips are one of my top favorites and these are crispy and good, and can easily stand up to the queso dip, but again, don’t have that grease coating.

Quakes - now I know rice cakes can have kind of a bad rap, because people tend to associate them with “dieting”… but I have always loved the satisfying crunch of a rice cake… and these tasty little guys come in a variety of SUPER YUMMY flavors. The cheese is great, the chocolate is pretty tasty in a chocolate breakfast cereal kind of way, but the Apple Cinnamon - oh sweet mother… SOOOO good. Also - do not turn your nose up at the “90 calorie pack” mini ones… because the cinnamon roll and caramel coated flavors are WONDERFUL! (I also have a weakness for “mini” anything).

All three highly recommended when you want that crispy, crunchy munchie!

Hey, just because it’s a 90 calorie pack doesn’t mean you can’t have two or three packs. :)

And don’t forget Sunchips! Those aren’t greasy, are they?

    Peace,
    Shannon

I don’t know what it is about Sun Chips but I just can’t seem to like them. I tried.

I love the Quakes. I buy those off and on whenever I’m in the mood for something different. My favorites are the cheese ones and the apple cinnamon ones.

Sour Cream and Cheddar Baked Lays! The flavor is awesome and they have ridges. I totally prefer these to the regular greasy Lays.

Also, when I am craving fries I will bake my own sweet potato fries. I just peel and cut up the sweet potatoes, coat in olive oil, Italian breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese. amd salt and then bake until brown and crispy. Super easy, and it hits that salty/sweet craving perfectly :)

I forgot the sour cream and cheddar baked lays! I love those!

And those sweet potato fries sound delish! If I were willing to use one of those oven-thingies, or like, a knife, or something like that, I would totally go for those!

I too am a big fan of salty, cruncy snacks. I second the baked Tostitos mention but will have to try the baked Cheetos (with Mountain Dew!) for our next gaming night, provided we have money by then.

The baked Cheetos work nicely with french onion dip…

NCP, I am totally with you on Sunchips. They’re like salty breakfast cereal. Not okay.

The Whole Foods near my parents’ place sells these amazing almonds which are dry-roasted with soy sauce, and I think Trader Joes has something similar. Salty, delicious, and healthy too! ^_^
