On Friday, Huffington Post announced that its Healthy Living Section is inviting readers to submit videos sharing “The Moment I Knew I HAD to Lose Weight.” In response, our very own Deah (that rascal) has been asking people to join her in counter-acting this series with our own. Below is Deah’s call to action, and I recommend that anyone who can submit their own videos. If you do submit one, please share the link in the comments so we can keep track of just how many videos Huffington Post receives.

Per Deah:

The Huff Post is soliciting video submissions for “The Moment I Knew I HAD To Lose Weight.” I wrote to them about doing a series on “The Moment I Knew I HAD to Stop Dieting. They said if people sent in videos like that they’d do a piece. I think we should FLOOD them with HAES/Diets Don’t Work/Self-Acceptance Videos. Here is the info:

Please make sure to include your full name with your video submission. Each video should be 30-60 seconds long, and should feature only you, speaking right into the camera telling your story. Please start your story with the words “The moment I knew…”

We can’t wait to hear from you! And if you have any questions, please email
themomentiknew@huffingtonpost.com.

What a great idea. Can’t wait to hear about results for that. I might make one..”The moment I knew I would never go on a diet.”

I don’t have a video, but I have a great story. My mother was a lifelong dieter. She’d tried everything, and she raised me (and my sister) with the obsession that we were always wrong unless we were thin (which we weren’t).
We grew up, she got sick, and her body started to fail. She went blind, she went numb (diabetic neuropathy), her heart was weak and her kidneys quit. But she came home from the latest visit to the hospital, thrilled that she was BELOW 200 lbs for the first time since high school!! She was dying, and all that mattered was that she was going to leave a thinner corpse.
THAT was the moment when I realized that dieting was CRAP, and this was no way to live. She died 2 weeks later. It took a few months, but shortly after that, I quit dieting, and have never done it since.
